'"'I'm Just Me .... Trying to meet and photograph every dog I can......'
The story so far....
A mini bio....
From an early age I've had a keen interest in Photography. My first camera was a Kodak 110 cassette camera. I would head off into the wilderness of Loxley Valley looking for unique opportunities to record onto film. While the resolution and print size was disappointing by today's standards, it sparked something within me that still fires to today.
In '86, with a portfolio of 7x5 images mounted on bright blue card I applied for the ‘Design Photography’ course. It was then that my eyes were really opened to the world of creative Photography. Learning about the masters of photography. Landscape artists such as Bill Brant, Ansel Adams and Edward Weston and portrait artists Annie Leibovitz, Henry Cartier-Bresson influenced my compositional style and Technical skills, as they still do today, from the patience of the Landscape photographers, to the skill of the portrait photographer in capturing that 100th of a second when everything is just perfect.
Having worked as a Commercial photographer working with large format 5x4 and 10x8 cameras and medium format 120 cameras for weddings, to 35mm cameras for street and event photography and then and now full-frame DSLR cameras, I consider myself to have the perfect grounding in achieving the best results possible from any situation.
Since 2018 I have started to work more and more with pets. I have also started touring all over the country with dog festivals over the summer months with a portable studio and print station. Which I enjoy immensely, getting to meet lots of dogs and their hoomons.
I am particularly happy to have the opportunity to work with the wonderful people at the ‘Just For Dogs’ rescue center just outside Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
The idea first came to me while taking portraits of dogs at the "Dog Lovers Festival" run by Mad Hatters Events in Elvaston Park.
What if I could do Something to help promote a local dog charity? Having talked it over with my partner. She suggested a charity her friend did collections for up near Ashbourne. So I went looking for a Rescue centre in Brailsford, Ashbourne. Where I met up with the Lovely Maggie, rushed off her feet!
They very kindly let us pitch our portable studio up at the next event(2 days away at the time). It was a great success and we helped raise a lot of money and made some new friends and I fell in love with every dog there!
That was back in September 2018. Now I go up when ever Maggie asks, and spend a couple of hours taking portraits of new arrivals so we can find them homes as soon as possible.
It's been a fantastic success and most dogs are finding new owners.
Which makes myself and everyone at Just for Dogs very happy.
With over 30 years experience in photography. I have come to understand that attention to detail is everything, From the initial composition on my trusty Nikon D810 or Df camera, to the final processing of the raw image, to the paper I use to print on. All these parts of the process are important to producing an image great enough to present to you the client. As well as all that I pride myself in being grounded, approachable and fun to work with, while performing my duties in a professional manner.
I look forward to meeting you
Best wishes Ian

"Ian is so professional, friendly and patient, putting all in attendance at each sitting at ease. He volunteers his services by visiting our dog rescue centre (Just For Dogs) on a regular basis to take photos of our homeless dogs. We are in no doubt that his commitment to our cause and the amazing photos he takes of the dogs, greatly increases their chances of finding wonderful, forever homes. Thank you Ian!xx"Via Facebook

"I had a great photo taken by Ian of my dog at the dog festival this year. He was very friendly and very patient as my dog was a little nervous at the start. I mentioned to Ian while he was taking the photo’s I struggle to see her eyes with her being black. He said he would definitely make sure I could see them. And as you can see in the picture below he did. I would highly recommend this guy and I’ll definitely be having another shoot with him. :)"Via Facebook
We decided in December to have portraits done of our Springer Spaniel doglet, Macie & her hoomans... we were put in touch with Ian Richardson photography, we were not disappointed. From the consultation to the finished prints we were absolutely delighted with the relaxed way everything went, Ian is certainly the man to go to for anything you want photographed professionally. Many Thanks Ian for all you did. It’s my horse to be photographed next when hopefully the weather gets better. Regards Sue, Dave & Macie. XxVia Facebook

"Ian is an incredible photographer. I love looking at his photos on his site and really loved the pictures he took of my children and me. He came to our house with everything he needed including some great back drops, which was good because we couldn't go out for photos because of the weather. Ian was great with my daughter, who is usually very cautious around adults and new people and hides away. All three of my children really enjoyed having the pictures taken, as well as finding out all about the equipment and photography! We have some beautiful pictures now as well as fun memories of the day they were taken!"Via Facebook
